May 14th 2008... Georgia signs into law HB1031... CLEAR Coalition members are present as Governor Sonny Perdue brings Georgia to the top of the list for States supporting AED access and CPR training in our public high schools.
January 4th, 2007... Massachusetts ...Governor Mitt Romney signs bill... requires each Massachusetts health club to buy an automated external defibrillator. Larger clubs have one year to comply, but ones with five or fewer employees will have two years to comply.
February 2007... Indiana ... passed SB134 authored by Sen. Patricia L. Miller. The bill would require health club owners or operators to:
- Have an automated external defibrillator available on health club premises.
- Employ at least one individual who is trained to use the defibrillator.
- Have a trained employee on the health club premises during business hours.
The bill provides that (omit :) a person who violates the health club defibrillator requirements commits a Class C infraction, and the Indiana State Department of Health may adopt rules to implement the requirements. It provides certain immunity from liability for acts or omissions involving defibrillators in health clubs.
February 13th, 2007... Texas... Senator Juan Hinojas filed a bill that would require automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in all public schools.
February 27th, 2007... Washington D.C.... Senators Feingold and Collins introduce reauthorization of the Automated Defibrillators in Adam’s Memory Act or the ADAM Act.(S.693) that would aid school districts in establishing training programs for CPR and AED’s and placement of AEDs.
March 23rd, 2007... Washington D.C.... Senator Dorgan, Collins and Feingold introduce amendment to the 2008 Budget Resolution ...”to increase awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and to make more lifesaving automated external defibrillators (AEDs) available across the country”. Dorgan-Collins-Feingold amendment is essential to continue and expand the vital Rural and Community Access to Emergency Devices program. “We appreciate the leadership of Senators Dorgan, Collins and Feingold to increase awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and to make more lifesaving automated external defibrillators (AEDs) available across the country.”
March 29th, 2007... New Hampshire... House Bill 911… the proposal would put the state on record as encouraging schools to obtain portable defibrillators. It would also set up a state commission to accept donations and help schools buy the devices.
On March 29th, 2007… Georgia ... Dr. Schatten, along with the CLEAR Coalition, presented an initiative recognizing the importance of CPR/AED training to the Georgia Legislature, Health and Human Services Committee. The committee voted unanimously to present a resolution and bill promoting CPR/AED education to the entire Georgia House.
